FEAR GANGLAND FEUD KEY 70 FATE OF THREE WOMEN

Nashville Feb 7 One man has been killed and possibly two others have fallen victims to gang warfare in southern Illinois costing 13 lives. Scrubby timber patches in Washington county were searched today by organized bands to solve the disappearance of Mrs Ethel Price wife of highway patrolman Lory Price whose body with two gunshot wounds was found near here. Price and his wife were abducted Jan 17. Belief is that Price was killed for knowing too much about the Shelton and Birger gangs and that Mrs Price also was slain. The first woman victim was Mrs Steve George who died weeks ago in the dynamiting and burning of Shady Rest a cottage belonging to Charles Birger. Hints have been given that the mysterious death of Mrs Helen Holbrook in St Petersburg Fla may be connected with the Birger Shelton feud. When the three Shelton brothers were on trial in Quincy for mail robbery Walter Provine said she might have been removed so she could not testify. Friends said Mrs Holbrook lived in Harrisburg Dr and her favor was contended for by Carl Shelton and Birger. Coincident with the search for Mrs Price Carl Earl and Bernie Shelton convicted of mail robbery arrived at Leavenworth to begin terms of two years each. They say they were framed by Charles Birger.
