Corn Greatest Feed for Fattening Beef, Joy Evward States
Joy Evward of the Town State College animal husbandry department urged corn as the top feed for fattening beef during Farm and Home Week. He recommended a balanced ration of corn with alfalfa hay or red clover hay, supplemented by linseed or cottonseed meal and a mineral mix. The mix, about 50 pounds limestone 50 pounds bone black or bone meal with potassium iodide, boosted profits per head. Baby calves respond well on free grain, while older cattle may need less corn, and two-year-olds fare best with wool considerations noted. The wool market report from Boston noted strengthening prices and steady demand with imports strong, while London closes higher across breeds. Minneapolis flour prices shown with slight increases and large-scale ship ments described.
