Supreme court rules wife not liable for husband's legal fees
The Iowa Supreme Court upheld a lower decision that attorney fees are not a reasonable and necessary family expense. Sager, Sweet & Edwards sought $1,731.30 from Mrs Elle M Risk to cover Loren Risk's defense in a subornation of perjury case. The Waterloo firm had attempted to attach her land in Buchanan county to satisfy the debt. The court found that such expenses fall outside the shared liability for a married couple and affirmed Judge Boies ruling.
