Underground Wiring Boosts Waterloo Gas and Electric Plant
Citizens Gas and Electric of Waterloo expanded during 1911 with an extensive underground wiring system in the business district, removing poles and installing substations to modernize power and lighting. The company, employing 110 workers with a $108000 annual payroll, also extended 34 miles of overhead wire and expanded gas mains to serve 480 lamps, while supplying electricity to factories and homes at low rates from its large hydraulic and carburetted water gas operations.
