I Need Thee Every Hour Hymn Origin Story
Annie Sherwood Hawks born 1835 wrote hymns after early poetry. Her Brooklyn marriage led to Hanson Place Baptist church where Rev Robert Lowry encouraged her verse. She authored I Need Thee Every Hour, a well known evangelistic hymn, inspired by a morning of need in 1872.
The Origin of I Need Thee Every Hour Hymn
The account recalls the writing of the hymn I Need Thee Every Hour. Mrs Hawks notes the lyric came to mind during a quiet June day, was set to music by Rev Mr Lowry, and first sung at a Sunday school convention in a western city. The hymn spread westward, Lowry added a refrain, and Mrs Hawks later died at eighty four after a life of church journal contributions.
