Red Cross Seals Sales Seen High This Christmas

Sales of Red Cross seals during the Christmas season are estimated over 30 000, slightly above last year. The drive was hindered by divisions in the sale effort with Mrs E L Johnson in charge of mailing and Mrs W H Kelly directing young women in stores. Hundreds of stamps were mailed to merchants who then disposed of them, hindering sales. Majestic Theatre sold stamps at an evening performance. Proceeds benefit the Iowa Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis with much of the funds used locally.

Tenant Farmer Most Efficient Says Missouri Study

Columbia Missouri December 25 Studies by O R Johnson of the College of Agriculture at the University of Missouri show tenant farmers are more efficient than landowners. In a northwestern Missouri county the tenant tilled 102.7 acres per worker versus 93.4 for owners and used 29 acres per horse compared with 25 for owners. Johnson attributes this to younger tenants and higher costs for owners, who hold more horses per acre. He notes tenants plant about a third of land in corn and one seventh in wheat, with a quarter in pasture, while owners plant about one fifth in corn one twelfth in wheat and leave half in pasture.
