Law of Sex Wins Over Law of Sect in Colony Jubilee Weddings

Benton Harbor Mich Dec 23 Forty members of an Israelite colony wed at its headquarters in two groups of twenty couples despite a leader’s ban on marriage. Thirteen couples wed in one ceremony and seven in another as a local justice of the peace tied the knots. The colony, founded about eight years ago by Benjamin and Mary Purnell, had scarcely seen weddings before yesterday. The event marks a dramatic shift after Willam Hannaford, an Australian, married his sweetheart and sparked a wave of engagements among twenty men and twenty women.
