Ear Kernel Type Has No Effect on Yield Says Hughes
Ames IA Dec 22 Ear and kernel characteristics do not affect corn yield, says Prof H D Hughes head of farm crops at Iowa State College. Three year tests show no evidence that seed corn with specific ear or kernel traits improves yield. Line-breeding alone gives little gain. crossing well self-pollinated line-bred samples six years often yields high hybrids.
