Romney sale in London confirms strong interest in Beckford children
The Christie’s auction drew record demand for Romney portraits led by the Beckford children, with a final bid of 52,000 guineas for the “Children of Beckford.” The sale surpassed previous records and highlighted childhood portraits as key drivers, despite Romney receiving little payment during his lifetime. The proceedings were noted for restrained bidding and high overall turnover, with Romney’s works showing dramatic posthumous value.
