Des Moines reports Fred Coates colored was sentenced by Judge Hubert Utterback to eight years in the Anamosa reformatory for shooting and killing Wil Vaughn colored at a dance in Carney Iowa last October after a quarrel over 25 cents. An advertisement notes the Commercial Auto Repair and Paint Shop open for business today at 6th and Commercial Streets.

Premonition of Death True in Mt. Ayr Case

In Mt Ayr a 87 year old man named John Roberts died when a 50 ton beam collapsed onto a wagon he rode. The incident happened on a hill as the wagon carried building material. Roberts, a longtime, robust worker, had Civil War service and was known for his hard driving, living in town.
