Chinese and Russian nationals were rounded up in Hankow as troops occupied the former concessions and conducted house to house searches for communists. Dozens were arrested, some women fled or were detained, and at Canton a raid killed 21 including the Soviet Vice Consul with executions following.
Chicago December 16. The first penitentiary sentences from the recent bombing series were imposed on Gust Stavrekes, president of the Boothlack's Protective association, and Peter Va Goura, business agent. They were found guilty of conspiring to institute a reign of terror through bombings and sentenced to one to five years. They were indicted Wednesday for bombing a shoe repair shop in the Cooper-Carlton hotel.
Painesville Ohio December 16 a 21 year old woman known as Mrs West will stand trial for the murder of her husband Edward West a prominent nurseryman. Prosecutor Seth Paulin said a county grand jury session is set for January 9 and the case is expected to require at least two days. If indicted she would face a jury in late January or early February.
A blaze at the Annapolis emergency hospital forced nurses to evacuate two dozen patients early today, including seven women who were mothers to newborns. Night superintendent Catherine Dulaney detected the smoke, raised the alarm, and directed rescues as firefighters worked for over an hour to control the fire.

The transfer of President Warren G. Harding and Mrs. Harding from the Marion cemetery temporary vault to the new marble tomb will take place on Wednesday December 21. Hoke Donlthen, chairman of the Harding Memorial association executive committee, announced the date.
A break on the Arkansas Natural Gas main line south of Arkadelphia cut gas to about 20 cities including Little Rock and Hot Springs on a frigid day. Officials said repairs may not be completed before night.
Six leaders of the I W W coal strike were arrested at Longmont as state guardsmen dispersed a crowd of 600. Included are Frank Palmer former editor of the Colorado Labor Advocate and James Allander secretary of the Lafayette Coal Miners union.

Stockholders seek a recount of the business affairs of the Dubuque Hotel Company controlling the property.
The eighth flood of the year in Arkansas was checked as rivers fell and snow flurries replaced rain. The Arkansas and White rivers crested, with Newport and Little Rock reporting peaks, and about 300000 dollars in damage already incurred in Northwest Arkansas. No rain was reported today as normal conditions returned.
In Chattanooga Tennessee on December 16 1930 Judge Yarnell cited Mosaic law to interpret a civil dispute over two bulldogs and grazing cows. Fate Davis sued Josie Thaxton for injuries after being bitten. defendant’s dogs were owned by Thaxton who was found liable for $75 in damages. The judge affirmed the award noting modern law replaces ancient capital punishment with monetary ransom.
London reports the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company opened two short wave beam systems for commercial use to North and South America after secret tests. The systems transmit at about 20 words per minute.
Peter Seiler aged 20 and George Ricci 31 were executed by electric chair at Sing Sing after a prison musical comedy. Seiler had helped in a New York City holdup that killed Patrolman James Masterson. Ricci killed real estate agent Frank Scagullo. Also in Illinois and nearby states, James Hayes, 29, was hanged in Sangamon county for Mrs Dolly Flatt’s murder, the first county hanging since 1904, with a later stay of execution for Herschel Andrews to assess sanity. William Brown, a Black man, was hanged for murdering two Black women with an axe in Metropolis Illinois.
Hotel Russell Lamson announces its annual New Year's Eve watern party from 7 p m Saturday Dec 31 to Jan 1 1928. The affair will be formal or informal as guests choose. Music will be by the All State Orchestra.
A landlord attachment closed Burch's women's apparel shop at 216-18 Fourth Street cast. J. M. Sterly filed suit against A. W. Burch alleging $3,600 in overdue rent. Sheriff action followed the delinquency claim.

J W Thompson and Elsie Coleman seek separation from LeClaire Coleman on grounds of cruelty and request an attachment of an automobile and a home injunction at 127 Vine Street. They married November 29 1920. Edith Scribner seeks divorce from Charles W Scribner alleging cruelty and asks an injunction to restrain him from molesting her at the home of J A Johnsen.
Des Moines report states overpayment of salaries and other alleged misuses of Broadlawns General Hospital funds were denied by board chair P. B. Sherriff executive secretary T. P. Sharpnick and medical superintendent Dr. Charles H. Sprague. Cedar Falls note: Charles Belfield to have 3 p.m. hearing before Justice Whitford on charge of illegal possession after being arrested last evening.
Col. Charles A. Lindbergh will spend Christmas in Mexico City then fly to Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Panama before returning to St. Louis. He expects his mother Mrs. Evangeline Lindbergh to join him. visit order undecided. He also discussed future air service links and his Paris flight challenges.
The post backed a bill permitting 10 round fights to a decision by officials under a state boxing commission. The vote drew a hush and no dissent. Philadelphia report says six bandits in two cars rammed a Union Bank and Trust Co. messenger car, held up the guard and messenger, then fled with 11100.
