1918 Football Toll Drops. Nine Die In Season
The 1918 football season claimed nine lives, three fewer than 1917, with most victims being freelance players not under college or town medical oversight. Experts cite insufficient training and examination as factors while defenders argue current rules limit danger. Notable victims include Gart Envder Pennsylvanian player and Maurice Thompson of Pontiac, among others.
