Iowa Mines Open Promptly as Coal Output Expected Soon
Des Moines reports several Iowa mines opened on Thursday with most expected to operate by Friday. The Anderson mine by Des Moines Coal and Coke Co. moved 40 workers by 9 am, rising to about 160 later. Knoxville’s McKagg mine also started with partial labor, full force anticipated today with around 700 tons daily capacity. Railroads will receive large portions of first output, as train service regains after snow and weather disruptions. Stores extend hours from 9 am to 6 pm under Webster fuel orders, while officials warn fuel shortages persist and careful distribution is needed.
