Eradication of bovine tuberculosis tops Iowa farming talk
Des Moines December 16 The state agricultural convention heard that eradication of bovine tuberculosis is the major task of the new department’s animal industry division. Secretary Mark Thornburg said Iowa uses 250000 dollars annually from state funds plus federal aid for tuberculosis work and that counties levy up to three mills to support local efforts.Estimated spending for the coming year tops 1006000 dollars, with more than half a million cattle tested in the year ending June 30 1924 under the county area plan. Forty five counties have adopted measures to eradicate the disease amid rising public health demand. The dairy and food inspections have grown cost efficiency and total inspections rose 45 percent year over year.
