Improved Iowa employment survey signals slow recovery
Des Moines reports from the Iowa Employment Survey show November employment in 266 firms fell 1.3 percent from October due to widespread reductions in manufacturing. Despite October gains in several industries, most sectors posted losses with textiles and railway car shops down sharply while food, paper, and mercantile groups showed modest gains. The report notes overall business conditions should gradually improve from October.
