Mackabees Name New Commander Here
Elmer J. Shepard was elected commander of the local lodge of Knights of the Maccabees succeeding M. C. Jacoby at a meeting in the MacCabees headquarters at 710 Sycamore Street. Officers elected include Harevy Horst lieutenant commander and Joe Cratsley sergeant. A class of 25 cadets will be initiated Thursday night. This marks the first open ritual since 1894 with ladies admitted and a large delegation expected from Cedar Rapids. The lodge and auxiliary plan a joint Christmas party December 22 with a tree and children’s program.

Leckington seeks divorce and custody in Iowa case
Cart A Leckington filed for divorce custody of two minor children and an injunction to prevent Marion M Leckington from interfering with parenting. The couple wed February 7 1917 in Waterloo and a temporary injunction was issued. Arlene M and Robert F are the children. Des Moines judge granted the writ.

A large Waterloo Moose delegation travels Sunday to Marshalltown to assist with the initiation of 60 candidates into Cedar Valley Legion No. 141. Special buses and member car rides cover travel with a 2 p.m. ceremony in Crystal Hall and a 6 p.m. banquet at Marshalltown Moose hall. Car versus train near Marshalltown leaves driver uninjured
In Marshalltown Iowa a driver named Fowler narrowly escaped death when his automobile was struck by an eastbound Northwestern train. The car was hurled onto the tracks by a westbound train before Fowler was thrown clear. The vehicle was demolished and no serious injuries reported.

Herbert Shining, father, was injured in a runaway near his home on a Saturday noon. He was brought to Presbyteriary hospital Wednesday for surgical treatment and is reported to be resting fairly well after the operation.
