Powers Seeks State Takeover of Unclaimed Bank Deposits
Des Moines August 29 United Press unclaimed bank deposits should revert to the state if claimants fail to act. Assistant Attorney General B J Powers urges next session action to have banks remit unclaimed funds to state after 10 to 20 years, with deposits escheating to state if ownership remains unknown. He cites a $1800 bank note bequeathed to Iowa Humane society that was never claimed and stayed as a deposit. Powers says most attorneys are honest and that crooked practice is rare, with affidavits required to prove any attempted tricks.
