Uncle Ray explains that not all Old Stone Age people lived in caves, with many campsites in open areas while caves offered winter shelter. Evidence from France and Spain shows fires and bones in caves, stone spearheads and arrowheads mark progress, and cave bears and lions contested spaces. The text notes a shift after the stone pointed spear improved hunting of bears and deer, and mentions vast bone heaps from wild horses in France, plus rhinoceros remains in Italy and Sicily and land connections between continents.
