Des Moines Hosts Eighty Eighth Division Veterans Reunion
Young veterans from the Midwest Eighty Eighth Division return for a three day reunion August 26 to 28. Special trains from Minneapolis Omaha Kansas City St Louis and Sioux City arrive. A grand review led by General Weigle and General Stewart with Fort Des Moines escort. 400 mounted men parade with color bearers and unit detachments. The event includes a nurses reunion parade, social events, a banquet, and the formation of a permanent Eighty Eighth veterans organization plus dedication of a gold star service flag on Capitol grounds. Veterans register at the courthouse on arrival.
