Between Vinton and Cedar Falls no dwellings stood as Luck carried mail for 30 years. He slept after lunch, rode a loyal pony, and once nearly crossed the Black Hawk in a rainstorm. He helped found Waterloo post office with Charles Mullan and later settled in New Hartford. Luck died four years ago leaving many descendants, and researchers study oleo resin as a turpentine substitute.
