Shipping bill urged by Faxon in Waterloo
Secretary Sty H Faxon of the Mississippi Valley association urged Waterloo citizens to back a shipping bill to revitalize the river merchant marine. He argued the measure would free valley ports from dependence on imports, boost foreign trade, and allow government ships to be absorbed by small operators over time. Faxon cited large wartime subsidies and stressed the valley’s stake in a revival of international trade through improved routes and Great Lakes Saint Lawrence projects. He then planned to continue to Cedar Rapids.
