Des Moines Report Shows Iowa Auto Fees Rise in First Half
Des Moines reports Iowa auto owners paid 9.43 million in license fees for the first six months of 1925, up from 5.5 million a year earlier, with total registrations logging 576 480 cars, 41 984 trucks, 2 072 trailers, 12 694 chauffeurs licenses issued and 1 892 dealers licenses. Clinton and Webster counties exceed 10 000 registered cars for the first time, prompting next year’s county-number changes and plate-numbers plan. The state plans maroon back plates with white numbers next year as about one million dollars weekly fuels gasoline use in Iowa and a 410 000–600 000 annual personal spending on car upkeep.
