Wood paving blocks swell on Fifth and Sycamore streets
Rain swollen wood pavement blocks disrupt Fifth street east and Sycamore street traffic. Blocks between Fifth street bridge and Water street, about 60 feet long by a yard wide, rose and piled up. On Sycamore a 36 foot patch between Fourth and Fifth and a 20 foot crosswise patch also lifted from the concrete base. Earlier mends covered three Fifth street east patches. Workmen blame water seeping to the concrete base, swelling blocks and lifting them, with vehicles forcing them down.
