Odd Shaped Stone Thought to Have Interesting Past
Frank Bartlett, a laborer arriving in Waterloo this week, carries an oddly shaped stone like a goose egg. He unearthed it in 1919 at Kokomo Indiana during waterworks digging and believes it may be a gold marker. The smooth stone shows two worn figures at one spot and Bartlett speculates it was shaped by an early gold seeker, perhaps an Indian, centuries ago. He dug it from four feet of red clay and plans to seek expert opinion in Iowa City or Cedar Falls.
