Des Moines reports the sixty-ninth Iowa state fair will run August 22 to 31 with total premiums of 120000, up from 75000 a decade ago. Attendance surpassed 400000 in recent years as departments broaden including a women and children's building and a large youth program. The fair showcases health, home economics, dressmaking, poultry, farm records, and a boys and girls fair with over 1000 entrants.
Competing for more than 10000 dollars in premiums, the Big Exhibit Baby Beeves draws over 500 entries from boys and girls. Swine sheep and poultry displays accompany daily farm work demonstrations. A August 29 pageant will parade prize animals, with thirty miles of livestock shown and a large auto show. A team pulling contest offers combined farm and city teams and total premiums of 600 dollars to winners.
An advertisement claims Marmola Prescription Tablets make weight loss easy without dieting or exercise. It promotes harmless tablets sold for one dollar by druggists or direct from Marmoth Co. in Detroit Michigan, asserting reduced fat without strenuous effort or danger.
The event features horne racing for five days and auto racing on the first and last Fridays of the fair. Male races highlight the program along with horseshow and fireworks. A fancy horse show at night and a large fireworks display accompany an amphitheatre launch. The hippodrome will host the Thomas Saxotette and the Jazz hounds.
Steal attraction and other features will be staged in front of the amphitheatre each afternoon and evening. The fair management has arranged these programs this year to entertain and instruct the people.
