Des Moines reports that the sixty-ninth Iowa state fair will run August 22 to 31 with premiums totaling $120,000, up from $75,000 ten years prior. Attendance has grown from about 300,000 to over 400,000 as new departments expand offerings especially for women and children, including health contests, home economics, and style showcases.
The event highlights include more than Albita competing for 10000 dollars in premiums, with over 500 baby beef entries by boys and girls. Exhibits will cover swings, sheep, and poultry, plus a daily farm work demonstration. A Wednesday parade on Aug 29 will display prize animals, while a large livestock display and an auto show entertain attendees.
An ad for Marmola Prescription Tablets claims weight loss is easy and safe without dieting or exercise. It markets a cheap remedy available for one dollar, with mail order from Marmola Co. Detroit Michigan.
The program features five days of horse racing and auto racing on the first and last Fridays of the fair. Male races lead the program with a horseshow and fireworks. Nightly fancy horse show and a large fireworks display precede a hippodrama act with the Thomas Saxotette jazz band.
Fair management has arranged afternoon and evening attractions in front of the amphitheatre to entertain and instruct attendees. The program highlights a series of features aimed at engaging visitors throughout each day of the event.
