Railroad Man Plans Union Station for Waterloo Railways

A Waterloo railroad worker proposes a comprehensive plan to modernize the depot system. Key ideas include locating a union passenger station on the east river bank, double tracking the C G W bridge for the C B and Rock Island lines, elevating tracks, and eliminating dangerous grade crossings at Walnut and Franklin streets. The plan calls for back-in operations for Great Western Rock Island and Illinois Central trains, with viaducts replacing certain crossings and shared main-line routes for freight. The proposer notes opposition is likely but argues the city must tackle large projects for a sane terminal solution.

Union Depot and Coliseum Plan For Waterloo Railways

A proposed Waterloo union depot on the west river bank south of the Ca Wo bridge would serve all roads. The Chicagoe Great Western already runs there and Rock Island could extend riverfront trackage to form a belt line. The crossing at Fourth and Fifth streets could be abandoned and trains moved to the lower belt line.

New Homes Start as Waterloo Industry Picks Up

Industrial conditions in Waterloo show early signs of revival with several new residences under way and excavations on Second Street near the United Presbyterian church. Weather has favored work on paving, sewers, sidewalks, and bridges, while factories and trades employ steady, well-paid labor. Real estate transfers and tax valuation debates reflect broader economic activity and public finance concerns locally.

Weeds Will Be Seeding Soon in Waterloo Areas

Real estate owners and renters in Waterloo are urged to act now to cut weeds before they seed. Quack grass and wild parsnips have taken to seed, threatening next year’s growth. Vacant Locust and Fifth street ground owned by the west board of education is heavily weeded, along with other unoccupied lots on city outskirts and in residential areas. Property owners are advised to apply the “scythe cure” promptly to prevent further spread. A Courier want ad promises saving time and worry.
