Valley Center Oil Boom Leaves Town A Shadow of Its Past
Malley Center Kansas April 30 story details 21 tests drilling for oil on the townsite. Initial optimism faded as wells yielded water or failed to produce. A notable find on the Plains Oil school's athletic field produced oil but soon declined, prompting closures and dismantling of rigs. Valley Center's beauty and growth suffered as drilling moved in, with ponds dug, trees felled, and homes relocated. Authorities plan rebuilding including a new jail, while nearby districts like Golden Triangle and Wright pool remain active.
