Insurance to Extend Automatically After Discharge

The Associated Press reports that government life insurance will extend automatically for one month after a service discharge even if premiums are unpaid. If the service member dies within that period, the policy is paid. if not applied for reinstatement, it lapses. Reinstatement is possible within six months. The bureau will recognize physical disability on discharge and authorize free hospital treatment for partially disabled veterans who do not receive disability compensation. Officials seek input from discharged servicemen and sailors who need free care or have not updated addresses.
