Florida Fossil Finds Hint At Ancient Paradise
New York April 28 A plausible explanation for the Fountain of Youth fable arises from studies of Florida fossils at the American Museum of Natural History. Florida, rich in fossils, may have been a prehistoric paradise for animals and early humans. Dr G G Simpson notes the climate preserved bones in situ, with evidence of humans present alongside now-extinct animals. Dates for man's first appearance in Florida range from 2,500 to 25,000 years ago. Florida’s dry periods and sea rise are discussed as context. Simpson plans a two month Florida visit to collaborate with state geologists and paleontologists to map recover and identify more fossils from about 50 sites.
