Waterloo Woman Joins Hui O Pele At Kilauea Visit
Mrs Vera Walls of 318 Wellington street left Waterloo January 1 for a western trip including Hawaii. She toured the Kilauea crater and was made a member of Hui O Pele the Hawaiian order of Pele. The organization had 8925 members at the time of her initiation. Legends say Pele inhabits Halemaumau and sometimes appears in human form to foretell volcanic activity. Kilauea lies in Hawaii National Park on the island’s largest volcano.
