GOUNGIL CREATES BUSINESS ISLAND FOR DRUG STORE
Erection of a $17,000 drug store and apartment building at Balti more and Fifth streets by George McGuire was insured last night when the city council passed an ordinance removing lots 8, 9 and 10 Wightman’s subdivision from the residence zone. The action creates a business island in a restricted residential area, to meet neighborhood demand for a suburban store center. The three lots are part of a triangular plot. McGuire owns lots 9 and 10. Ray C. Eggert urged extending the limited parking zone along Commercial street and Park avenue with a one hour limit 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. He cited congestion and parking difficulty near the post office and urged restrictions supported by local business interests. Action on the parking ordinance was postponed for further consideration along with other street proposals.
