Iowa road law goes into effect prompting hard surface plans

Des Moines reports the Iowa road law is now in force, accelerating plans for hard surfacing in Greene and Crawford counties. The law limits gravel roads, mandates drainage and grading for intercounty routes, and reallocates road taxes to secondary roads, aiming to equip several counties to start hard surface projects soon. Policymakers note costs run high, about 20 000 dollars per mile, with 5 000 dollars upfront per mile for adjacent graded areas.
