Law creates licensing for real estate brokers and salesmen
A new Iowa law requires real estate brokers and salesmen to obtain annual licenses issued by the state real estate commissioner, who is the secretary of state. Brokers must maintain a state business, pay fees, and supervisors must oversee licensed personnel. Licenses may be revoked for misrepresentation, dual agency without consent, or accepting commissions from non-employers. Violations carry fines up to 500 dollars or six months in jail, and fees go to the state treasury.
