Beauty Chats by Edna Kent Forbes
A discussion on cosmetics and natural beauty challenges the idea of banning makeup. It argues lipstick powder and cream can aid appearance as long as they stay subtle and natural looking. The piece suggests skin tonics and herbal purifiers as alternatives for clear skin.

Diningroom Set Made From Gettysburg Tree On Display
A 10 piece black walnut dining room set from a tree that stood on Culp's Hill near Gettysburg bears silent testimony to the 1863 battle. Cabinetmaker John Good fashioned the Lesher piece for Rev. Leland H. Lesher, pastor at St. Luke's English Lutheran, using wood marked by lead bullets. The piece exemplifies the high water mark of the Confederacy as Meade halted Lee near Cemetery Ridge, with casualties and fortifications noted from the historic three day engagement.
