Relief Flour Is Much Appreciated by Belgians
William G C Nichols of Minneapolis, manager of the Northwestern Miller, visiting Waterloo, reports that William Edgar who originated the slogan express your sympathy in flour views this relief project as his life’s crowning feature. A half million dollar cargo left Philadelphia in January and three quarters of a million distributed in Belgium by March, donated by the people of Waterloo and Cedar Falls. Edgar accompanied the shipment on the South Point to Brussels, with papers left at the U S consul. The flour was donated and railways ferried it free. Nichols notes the effort will aid more than hunger by teaching Belgians to separate bran for animal feed. The South Point, an American boat, was sunk by a mine on its return voyage. Belgium has expressed thanks for the donation.
