Farmlands in Mass Show Higher Per Acre Value Than Midwest
Massachusetts farmers earned higher crop value per acre in 1922 than many western states, yet factory work still outpays farming. The state reported $49 per acre on average versus under $17 nationally, with Massachusetts land producing over $44 million in crops on 60 000 acres. Maine and Vermont trailed in New England with lower per acre values.
