Postal Savings Plan Faces Large Growth and Bank Shifts
The proposed postal savings expansion aims to pour between 830 million and 50 million into postal banks, doubling current deposits of about 24 million and possibly reaching 100 million. Postmaster General Burleson leads the drive, backed by Congress members, with debates on unlimited deposits up to 1000 dollars and a move to pay interest on all sums. Regular banks show little opposition though concern exists over higher competition and profit plans may raise rates to banks.
