Firemen Injured as Ladder Breaks During City Fire
Herman Otto, city fireman, is confined to his home with injuries after an eight foot fall from a broken ladder while fighting a fire at J. G. McQuilkin's residence on Irving Street. Jed Ward Knipp, on the ladder, escaped major injuries and returns to duty. Losses include 490 to the building and 250 to contents. A separate rubbish fire at 1008 Eleventh Street West caused 30 damage. Fire crews also responded to a blaze at the Peek-Rath building with no damage reported and sparking on Mrs Margaret Collins residence roof causing minor damage later in the day.

Arrest Blind Man at Vinton as Bootlegger
Chester Wininger, a legally blind resident of Vinton, was arrested Saturday on a liquor manufacture charge. Authorities say a large quantity of mash and liquor was found. He has previous arrests on the same charge and will have a hearing in a few days.

Former City Resident Owed $78 Seeks Reimbursement

University of Iowa elects Roberts Burgitt captain for 1924
Roberts Burgitt of Spencer Ja was elected captain of the Iowa basketball team for 1924 at the annual election held here last night. Burgitt is a law student and member of the university. Motorship tonnage rose 87 percent in the year ending June 30 while steamship tonnage gained 4 percent.
