Student Devised Terminal Plans For Waterloo Project
L J Gamble developed a central Waterloo terminal scheme under the Greater Waterloo association. George D Leas, Ames student of engineering, outlines a cheaper plan costing about half the Gamble project. Leas proposes using the existing Great Western bridge, or a tunnel, and forming Union Stations at Waterloo and Cedar Falls to connect Illinois Central and Great Western lines with a single double decked bridge concept. He argues bridges are unsightly and a tunnel would better preserve Cedar River beauty while cutting construction costs by about one million dollars.
