Oil Scandals and Walsh Report Debate in 1920s Senate
A discussion of the 1924 oil lease investigations led by Senator Walsh, the contrasting majority and minority reports, and the political reception of the Teapot Dome affair. The piece notes public mood shifts, the Continental Trading Company’s role, and the evolving view of business versus political morality reflected in the era’s oil scandal coverage. It references Senator Spencer’s minority report and Walsh’s defense, with reflections on how moral authority and press attention shaped historical interpretation.
