ILS TC Students Object Strenuously to Military Training
Cedar Falls April 8 Special Rafusal to drill be measured for uniforms or to participate in any military maneuvers connected with the reserve officers training school unit aft the I S T C is expressed in resolutions passed at a mass Meeting of the men students at the college this morning. William Berry was appointed chairman of the meeting and L R Reed dean of men spoke in favor to the R O T C. The chief objections raised to the project of an officers training school at the Iowa State Teacher s college was the fact that participation in its activities have been made compulsory. It developed that 90 per cent of the male students at that institution have served in some branch of military service and do not feel the necessity for further training at this time. Another objection was the fact that military training tends to kill athletics which in the opinion of the student body are important in a live school. In speaking before the meeting one of the boys said that it was not unpatriotic to take this stand owing to the fact that there was a surplus of officers in the country snow. When he pledged his loyalty and that of his fellow students stating they would re-enlist if occasion required it he was loudly applauded. In conclusion the boys appointed a committee consisting of Messrs Brown Berry and Jordan to call on TH H Seerley president fof the college expressing to him the sentiment of the men s minds of the I 8 T C They then passed resolved refusing to take part or be measured for uniforms until their plea had given due consideration. Practically every male student at the I 8 T C was present and took part in the mass meeting.
