Fort Atkinson Fort Restored as Iowa State Park
Fort Atkinson on the upper Iowa River will be restored this spring by the state park commission. After twenty years of Iowa-led effort, three remaining fort buildings will be preserved and turned into relic depots, with the site expanded from three to about forty acres as a historic park.
