Waterloo hosts a citywide kite fighting tournament to thrill youths. Victor A Read, playground director, says preliminaries start April 9 in schools and communities. Event April 20 at Byrnes Park features three kite divisions and various contests with many prizes.
Chickasaw County special election set for Saturday April 13 in subdistrict No 1 Bradford township to decide issuing negotiable bonds of 3000 dollars for building equipping and furnishing a schoolhouse in subdistrict No 7 Bradford township. Also notes Nashua resident Matt Peterson's paralysis and Eastern Star luncheon with Mrs Cora Bentley and local officers.
LeRoy Minnesota businessman Statler W. Despard has purchased the Mid-Continent Service station, formerly run by Elmer Potter who died two weeks ago. Potter’s death preceded the sale, and Despard plans to establish his own operation at the site.
Bright sunshine and drying winds improve dirt and gravel roads in the district though several highways remain passable only with cars pulled through quagmires from Sunday's storm. Eight miles of dirt road between Cedar Rapids and Le Porte City stay bad. crews plank routes near Waverly and Bremer County to restore passability while Bryant Paving begins repairs on highway 20 damaged by floods.
A damaged section of paving requires quick repair with a temporary trestle to be constructed pending filling in. About 3,000 cubic yards of dirt are needed to restore the grade and complete the work.
