Famed Saloon of Bygone Day Being Torn Down Today
I T Muldoon begins tearing down the old frame building at 611 Water street between Yourth and Fifth condemned by the city. For forty years it was a saloon with mahogany fixtures later a soft drink parlor. The structure deteriorated and posed safety and health risks. Citizens recall a grocery store era when farmers traded lunches after selling grain and a beer saloon in a rear room. Prohibition shifted the business to soft drinks as national law prevailed.
