Canton May 24 Dr Portman reports Mrs McKinley better in heart and circulation this morning. she asked for water but remained unconscious. Condition still serious with risk of relapse. Surgeon General Rixey and Secretary Cortelyou arrived. Rixey to consult with local doctors as nurses care for her.
Attorney N R Bronson gives notice of appeal from Judge Gager in W M Camp v county commissioners. Case of Sarah Knapp's saloon license moves to the supreme court after multiple overrulings and disputes involving the Waterbury Driving association lease. Also reports a tornado threat in Oklahoma and the death of former Senator John Patton.
Boise May 24 The Haywood murder trial moves into its eleventh day with forty four of sixty summoned jurors awaiting examination. Henry Curtis, the tenth talesman called, offered limited views on socialism and was passed for cause. With eight peremptory challenges left, verdict chances look dim yet expect jury by Saturday night as outlying district fillers are anticipated. In Boston the New England Association of School Superintendents meets at Boston Latin Hall focusing on public education and state roles with leaders from Maine, Boston and Hyannis presenting views.
Jefferson City May 24 Commissioner Anthony appointed by the Missouri supreme court to take testimony in the ouster suit of the state against Standard Oil today filed a reply claiming the evidence before him is sufficient to oust Standard Oil and its tributary companies from Missouri.
Horace D Taft head of the Taft school at Watertown and editor of Publicity spoke at the Congregational church on reform needs in Connecticut He named issues including lobbyists the Connecticut machine and the difficulty of tracking legislative action He urged organizing a people’s lobby and publishing candidates records to inform voters.
Peabody admitted involvement in the Gould case after meeting a high police official.
