Parrot Saves Owner Before Fatal Neck Wound in New Jersey
In Washington New Jersey on May 8 George B Andrews lay unconscious after a ceiling fall left a deep neck wound. Neighbors were alerted by the parrot crying murder help and come quick. A doctor stitched six wounds and said death was near. The parrot previously saved Andrews from a house fire years earlier. Andrews is a Civil War veteran who sought admission to a soldiers' home but was denied permission to bring the parrot.

The home of Alexander B Brush, one of the town s finest houses, burned last night likely from chimney sparks from his nearby creamery. The village lacks fire protection and despite neighbors rushing to help, the flames could not be stopped. Furniture and movable items were saved as the fire burned slowly. Loss is estimated at 3000 dollars with no insurance.
