London crowds gather at Bank of England as the prospectus announces 150,900,000 of the 175,000,000 Transvaal loan at par with 3 percent interest and a 1 percent sinking fund. The issue redeemable in 1958, with installments due May 22 and June to December, and a 2 percent discount for early full payment.
A dispatch from Elgin Illinois reports Hannah Anderson a former nurse to Queen Victoria and later to Edward king of England has died at age 55. Born in Nordkapena Sweden she trained as a nurse there and was summoned to England to tend the royal family. Before moving to the United States she served eleven years as a nurse in South Africa under the British flag.
The Bank of England reports a weekly reserve rise of 14 thousand pounds with bullion up 10,676 pounds and notes reserve up 8 thousand. Circulation falls 3 thousand, other securities drop 3,127,000, and other deposits decline 3,575,000. Public deposits shed 565,000 while government securities stay unchanged. reserve to liability ratio rises to 52.17 percent from 48.90 percent.
The British bark Baldwin was quarantined on arrival in New York May 7 for disinfection after two crew members contracted smallpox during the voyage from Macoris via Port of Spain Trinidad. The ship had 33 days in Macoris quarantine where another case occurred, but no new cases have since surfaced.
Professor J. Merriam of the University of California will travel to southeastern Idaho this summer to search for reptilian remains in a lower Triassic formation than any previously found. He will be assisted by Herbert M. Vans with Professor James Perrin Smith of Stanford joining as an adviser.

New York May 4 The real racing season opened with the spring meeting of the Westchester Jockey Club at Morris Park over tracks fast in fine weather. Baltimore May 7 The board of election supervisors commenced the official examination of tally sheets from Tuesday's municipal election as required by law. Four disputed precinct ballots will be opened and counted. Without these, Democrat Robert H. McLane leads by 580 votes. Republicans plan to contest on behalf of Frank C. Wachter.
New Haven May 7 The trolleymen meeting scheduled for this morning was postponed to Friday morning due to pending matters. A main topic will be the new pay schedule for the road directors to review. The plan would raise long serving workers from 20 to 25 cents per hour as a reward for over ten years of service.

Huntington West Virginia May 7 a funeral net at Eggleston collapsed burying fifteen persons eight bodies recovered. Imperial forces defeated rebels gain near Fez after ten hours fighting capturing tents and loot both sides suffered heavy losses. Rebels asked for reinforcements, which were not sent.
