Twenty three survivors of French brig rescued by Phoebus
The French fishing brig Ile-de-Terre-Neuve of St Servean, with 26 aboard, was dazed by a hurricane on April 26. Twenty three crewmen were saved by the German American Steamer Phoebus after the vessel burned and sank. Four trips were made to rescue men from the wreck, which lay heavily listed and flooded. Brakeman Blamed for Death at South Norwalk
Coroner Doten ruled William Cavanaugh died in an accident caused by the criminal carelessness of Dennis Dowd, rear end brakeman of the freight train that backed into a passenger at South Norwalk. Prosecutor Tammany issued a warrant for Dowd on manslaughter charges. Dowd denied signaling, contradicted by trainmen, a telegraph operator, and the lever man. Dowd, a six week brakeman, lives at 328 West Portsea Street, New Haven.

Base Ball at Norwich Faces Police Staffing Dispute
