Watertown Jottings From Taft Gymnastic Tourney

The third Taft Athletic gymnastic tournament at the school gym drew many visitors mainly St Margaret girls and local youth. M B Glover broke the fence vault record at eight feet six inches, beating Max Overman. Other events saw winners in running jump and various vaults with J F Valle and D Bunn taking boxing and weight classes. Officials included referees J D McGowan and A I Variell, with D J Raymond as tournament chair. Wandering Willie hobos troubled town, visiting over 28 houses for food or money, while jail records show over 100 meditations at the lockup this winter. Mr and Mrs D Barlow to sail.

Taft school vacation and local notices mix entry

A mask hall event Saturday featured costumes and magician Kilby. James Loughlin has a measles attack. Augustus Adams visits as Miss Walker returns home to Southport for vacation. Augustus Adams, a carpenter, was injured hanging a door at work. Mr Brophil, previously ill, is improving.

Editor Sheldon Retires From Topeka Capital

In Topeka on March 19 Rev. C M Sheldon retires as editor of the Christian Daily Capital. His last edition was printed March 17 and contains no local or telegraphic news, only Bible selections and discussions of Bible questions. Printing and mailing cease by midnight. Stockholders split over continuing the Christian daily, with injunction and damage suits anticipated as conferences fail to reach agreement.
